Dear Sir:
- jugy~
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)
Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Fire Hazards Analysis - Containment Portion Enclosed is an update to the containment portion of the TMI-2 Fire Hazards Analysis (Fire Protection Program Evaluation) as originally submitted under Metropolitan Edison Company letter dated June 29, l
1977 (GQL 0889).
This is an update for fire area FA-049 Reactor Building only, and therefore, only pages 4.2-48 and 4.2-133 have been revised and new page 4.2-134a added.
In addition, the updated fire area drawing is also enclosed. The update has been performed to the original criteria, namely Appendix A to BTP APCSB 9.5-1.
As previously committed, the remainder of the Fire Hazards Analysis I
l will be submitted by June 15, 1982.
1 In a letter dated March 24, 1981, Met-Ed requested exemption from the completion time requirements of 10CFR50.48c for certain parts of Section III of Appendix R to 10CFR50 as well as open SER items.
1 I
Specifically, Met-Ed's intentions were to request exemption under 10CFR50.48c(6) for Section III G " Fire Protection of Safe Shutdown Capability",Section III O "011 Collection System for Reactor Coolant Pump", and the open SER items as outlined in our previous letter.
However, in your letter to us of May 7, 1981, you apparently understood us to request exemption from Section III J " Emergency Lighting" also.
To ensure there is no misunderstanding, the existing emergency lighting units installed in the Unit 2 facility are acceptable per the SER.
In addition, the existing lighting units satisfy the new Appendix R Section
/
III J requirements. Therefore, no exemption is necessary or requested for Section III J.

Dr. B. J. Snyder May 4, 1982-4400-82-L-0073 Also, based on additional review it has been determined that the existing RCP Oil Collection System satisfies the new Appendix R Section III O requirements. Therefore, the exemption requested-for Section III O in Met-Ed letter dated' March 24, 1981, is withdrawn.
