STC-19-XXX UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 February 24, 2020 ALL AGREEMENT AND NON-AGREEMENT STATES STATE LIAISON OFFICERS NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR COMMENT: RETROSPECTIVE REVIEW OF ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS (STC-20-011)
Purpose:
To provide notification of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) request in the Federal Register for public input on the retrospective review of administrative requirements initiative.
Background:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is conducting a retrospective review of administrative requirements to identify outdated or duplicative administrative requirements that may be eliminated without an adverse effect on public health or safety, common defense and security, protection of the environment, or regulatory effectiveness. On February 4, 2020, the NRC published a Federal Register notice (FRN) (85 FR 6103) requesting input from its licensees and members of the public on any administrative requirements that may be outdated or duplicative in nature. The NRC will use five criteria, described in the FRN, to evaluate public input received for possible revision or elimination to reduce burden on regulated entities and the NRC.
Discussion: The FRN is enclosed and can also be found on the Federal e-rulemaking portal http://www.regulations.gov under Docket No. NRC-2017-0214 and at:
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/02/04/2020-02025/retrospective-review-of-administrative-requirements. The NRC plans to hold two public meetings during the public comment period, on March 5 and March 24, 2020, to discuss the request for input. The FRN provides details on how to submit comments, which are due by April 6, 2020. Information about the meetings will be available at: https://www.nrc.gov/public-involve/public-meetings/index.cfm.
