Immediate Report of Reportable Occurrence This letter is a follow-up to a report made by C. A. Olmstead, Manager Technical Services to Mr. A. Johnson, NRC Region V, at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 26, 1982 concerning a situation where abnormal degradation was discovered in the fuel cladding in fuel pins in two (or more) fuel assemblies.
The damaged fuel pins were discovered during a preplanned fuel inspection program to locate suspected leaking fuel assemblies. All the similarly con-figured and similarly located fuel assemblies will be inspected. The total assemblics experiencing clad failures is not known at this time. We will provide attitional failure information in follow-up reports. This occurrence will be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Licensee Event Report in accordance with our established Technical Specifications.
