U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record Model No. 2501 Docket No. 71-5916 By application dated March 1, 1982, Monsanto Research Corporation requested renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 5916.

It was required that all supplemental information referenced by the Certificate of Compliance be incorporated into a consolidated application.

The consolidated safety analysis report contains the original application as amended by the supplements referenced by the Certificate of Canpliance.

The applicant has also updated the sections on dose rate determinations to include dose measurements on all shipments through January 1982. As a result of this updating, the applicant concluded that the maximum quantity of ' aterial per package needs to be reduced from 1,848 curies m

of Po-Be, or Am-Be, or Pu-238-Be to 1,509 curies and the maximum quantity of Cf-252 from 13.2 curies to 8.25 curies. The staff has reviewed the data on dose rate determinations and dose measurements and agrees with the applicants proposed reductions.

No other changes have been re. quested or made to the package since approval of latest supplement dated November 8,1978.

The staff concludes that the consolidated safety analysis report satisfies the requirements for renewal of the Certificate of Compliance.
