Subject:

Mark 1 Containment Program: Plant Unique Xn~ alysi s

Dear Sir:

This submittal is to document an extension request made in Reference (B).

In the cover letter of Reference (A), it is stated that Boston Edison shall submit the Plant Unique Analysis "in accordance with the schedule provided in (the) 198171 ark 1%ners' Group Status Summary Report or as subsequently agreed upon by you and the staff".

We intended that our submittal would be made in April,1982. However, Teledyne, the A/E we engaged for the Mark I Program, has informed us that the preparation and review of this Analysis will require more time than originally anticipated.

The current projection by Teledyne in" :tes that we will be able to submit the analysis, with the exception of torus attached piping and items related thereto, by September, 1982. A specific submittal date for the analysis concerning the torus attached piping and related items is being developed, and will be the subject of a supplement to this request.

Boston Edison Co. believes that the Mark I tasks which we have alseady completed have substantially improved the margins of safety of the containment systems. We believe for this reason that good cause exists for the extension of the Plant Unique Analysis submittal deadline.
