Dear Ms. Schleicher:
This is in response to your letter dated January 5,1981 in which you requested information concerning the 1974 and 1976 incidents at Isomedix, Parsippany, New Jersey.
Mr. J. D. Kinneman's letter to you dated January 27, 1982, further defined the scope of your request and stated that your request WeJ1d be handled pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.
The 20 documents listed on Appendix A are enclosed in their entirety with the exceptions of documents 1, 2, 3, and 17.
Portions of these four documents are being withheld pursuant to exemption (7)(C) of the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. 552(b)(7)(C)) and 10 CFR 9.5(a)(7)(iii) of the Commission's regulations because disclosure would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personai privacy.
The only information deleted from these documents is the name of the individual who received an overexposure to radiation.
Pursuant to 10 CFR 9.9 of the Commission's regulations, it has been determined that the information withheld is exempt from production or disclosure, and that its production or disclosure is contrary to the public interest.
The persons responsible for this denial are the undersigned and Mr. Ronald C. Haynes, Regional Administrator, Region I.
This denial may be appealed to the Commission's Executive Director for Operations within 30 days from the receipt of this letter.
As provided in 10 CFR 9.11, any such appeal must be in writing, addressed to the Executive Director for Operations, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555, and should clearly state on the envelope and in the letter that it is an " Appeal from an Initial FOIA Decision."
This completes action on your request.
