Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416 and 50-417 File 0260/6140 liydrodynamic Loads on Control Rod Drive Systems AECM-82/147 In response to your request for additional information in letter MAEC-82/72, dated March 29, 1982, Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L) is providing the following information pertaining to " fast scram" hydrodynamic loads in the piping and on the supports of Control Rod Drive (CRD) systems. Considerations of hydrodynamic loads were included in the stress analyses of the piping and supports in the CRD system on Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS).
Modifications to the design of the pipe supports in the CRD system as required by these analyses were subsequently accomplished. Thus, the safety concerns identified to the NRC by Reactor Controls, Inc., in their letter dated October 14, 1981, are no longer applicable to GGNS.
Ilowever, MP&L will respond to the items identified in your letter dated March 29, 1982, on or before May 28, 1982. This issue and schedule has been discussed by telephone with Mr. M. D. IIouston, NRC Project Manager, on April 9, 1982.
