Dear Mr. Schwencer:
The purpose of this letter is to describe the status of fire protection issues at LaSalle County Station.
This letter is based on telecons with Dr. Bournia, et al, o f your staf f on April 6 and 7, 1982.

I With respect to the subject of the Cable Spreading Room Design, it is our understanding that based upon Reference (a), this t
1ssue is closed.
With respect to fire doors, the 62 door frames and ten double doors at LaSalle County Station which have manufacturer's certification labels instead of the Underwriters Laboratory label are judged by the manufacturer and Commonwealth Edison Company to be equivalent the the UL labeled construction as prevelously described in Reference (a).
Because of your position, however, as provided in in telecons on April 6 and 7, 1982, Commonwealth Edison commits to implement one of the following prior to startup af ter the first refueling outage:

Perf orm an engineering review o f the manufacturer's certified doors and door frames by a nationally recognized laboratory to certify that the door and door frames provide the required fire resistance rating, or (2)
Test a replicate "as installed" door assembly by a nationally recognized laboratory to determine the door rating, or (3)
Replace manu f acturer's labeled doors and door frames with UL rated items if available.
It is our understanding that this proposal will satisfy your inter-pretation o f the requirements.
With respect to the cable pans in the diesel generator corridor, Commonwealth Edison commits to the following additional actions:
1.
Prior to litial criticality, install one-hour TSI covering on all four sides o f the previously partially protected power cable pan.
2.
Prior to initial criticality, install a general area sprinkler system in the diesel generator corridor.
It is our understanding that this will satisfy your interpretation of the requirements.
If there are any further questions in this matter, please contact this office.
