MEMORANDUM FOR:

The Files FROM:

Marvin R. Peterson, A: ting Assistant Director Export / Import and International Safeguards Office of Internationi.? Programs

SUBJECT:

PROPOSED LICENSE TO EXPORT NUCLEAR EQUIPMENT TO BELGIUM (XCOM0617)

On March 23, 1982, Westinghouse Electric Corporation applied for a license to export one proportional counter to Belgium for installation in the Doel III nuclear power. reactor. This counter will replace a damaged counter which was previously exported to Belgium for use in this reactor.

The applicant has requested expeditious processing of this license request as the equipment is required immediately by the customer.

The staff has concluded that the proposed export meets the requirements of the Atomic Energy Act, as amended, and would not be inimical to the connon defense and security of the United States.

In view of the above considerations, the staff issued the license without the normal 15-day waiting period.
