SUBJECT:
PROPOSED LICENSE TO EXPORT COMPONENTS TO JAPAN (XCOM0619)
On March 4 and March 18, 1982, C. Itoh & Company (America) Inc. applied for licenses with the Department of Commerce to export a total of 700 pieces of Guide Thimble Tubes to Japan for use in light water reactors operated by the Kansai Electric Power Company. On March 26, the Department of Commerce forwarded these applications to NRC for licensing action since the proposed exports are under the NRC export licensing jurisdiction.
The applicant has requested expeditious processing of these license applications as the material is ready for immediate shipment.
The staff has concluded that the proposed export meets the requirements of the Atomic Energy Act, as amended, and would not be inimical to the common defense and security of the United States.
In view of the above considerations, the staff issued the license without the normal 15-day waiting period.
