BOSTON DISON COMPANY PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION DOCKET NO. 50-293 Summary of Operations for August, 1981 The reactor was brought critical on August 2,1981 at 1234 hours0.0143 days
0.343 hours
0.00204 weeks
4.69537e-4 months
and kept in hot standby until August 3, 1981 when the turbine was synchronized on the grid at 0103.
Power was limited to 95% due to rod 22-11 being lef t fully inserted due to excessive scrar time.
Subsequent to a shutdown margin verification, power was reduced on August 7, 1981 to adjust rod pattern and withdraw of rod 22-11.
Unit was returned to 100% power on August 8, 1981.
IIPCI was declared inoperable on August 11, 1981 for repair of M0-1301-3 and returned to service on August 13, 1981.
From the period August 14, 1981 to August 25, 1981 power was reduced daily due to fouling of main condenser from mussels. On August 21, 1981 the turbine was taken off line because of low condenser vacuum caused by mussel intrusion.
Although divers cleaned intakes on August 26, 1981, unit scrammed on condenser low vacuum while opening 1-3 waterbox for cleaning. The reactor was brought critical on August 27, 1981 at 0358 and commenced power increase to 100%. On August 30, 1981 problems with dirty collet fingers was experienced with control rod 34-51.
CRD 34-51 was fully inserted which limited power to 98%.
