EQUIPENT FOR fiUCLEAR POWER PLANTS" - COHMENT PERIOD I have just received a copy of a letter, dated March 15, 1982, addressed to Secretary Chilk from Mr. Nicholas S. Reynolds of the law fim of l

Debevoise & Liberinen, on the above subject.

The letter states, in part, "We were assured by the Staff that if our l

comments are hand delivered to the Commission by March 25,1982 (as l

opposed to being mailed on Mart:h 22,1982), they will receive full and complete consideration by the Staff and Comission."

This is an incorrect statement.

I did not assure him that their coments l

will receive full and ccmplete consideration by the staff if received after March 22, 1982. Mr. M. Phillips of Debevoise & Liberman contacted me by telephone and asked if the staff would consider their coments on the proposed rule if they were hand delivered to the Commission by March 25, l

1982.

(Comment period expires on March 22,1982.)

I infomed him that only the Commission can grant an extension of the coment period and referred him to that portion of the Federal Register notice which states, "Conment period expires March 22, 1982. Coments received after that date will be considered if it is practical to do so, but assurance of consideration cannot be given except as to conments received on or l

before this date."

I also expressed the opinion that, in all probability, the comments would be considered if hand delivered by M!rch 25.
