Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 CD Updated Response to IE Bulletin 79-OlB Gentlemen:

On December 2,1980, a meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss the Duquesne Light Company Beaver Valley Unit 1 responses to IE Bulletin 79-OlB dated September 30, 1980 and October 30, 1980. As a result of that meeting, Duquesne Light Company agreed to submit an updated and expanded response to the Bulletin by January 6, 1981.

On December 12, 1980 an interim response was submitted which (1) identified procedures which were prepared or changed to provide additional guidance er instruction to the operator on how to cope with electrical equipment having some Environmental Qualification Deficiency and, (2) provided expanded justification for interim operation of those items that were highlighted in the Dccember 2, 1980 meeting as being of special concern.

This letter forwards a copy of the updated and expanded report for IE Bulletin 79-OlB.

This submittal is a complete report and supercedes all previous IE Bulletin 79-OlB submittals for Beaver Valley #1.

This report has been updated to include information which was not available for inclusion in the previous Bulletin responses; and the most recent information regarding plans and schedules for testing or replacement of equipment and any plant modifications required as a result of this Bulletin.

For equipment whose qualification does not meet the NRC standard established in IE Bulletin 79-01B, the justification for consideration has been expanded to include (1) identification of the equipment location and safety function, (2) discussion of the qualification deficiency, (3) presentation of a failure mode analysis, (4) justification for interim operation and (5) resolution of the qualification concerns.

Please note that due to the time needed for typing and reproduction, this report references some future commitment dates as December 31, 1980. Actions s) specified herein to have been completed by December 31, 1980 have been completed as committed.
