United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV 611 Ryan Plaza Drive, Suite 1000 Arlington, Texas 76011 Attn: Glen D. Brown, Chief, Technical Inspection Branch Re: Corrective action on License expiration as per your letter of 1/20/82.
Gentlenen:
As per telephone conversation between Mr. D.B. Spitzberg and myself on January 11, 1982 all radioactive material which was licensed under SND-280 issued to the University of Wyoming has been placed in locked storage in room 21 of the Physical Science Building. This room is a separate stor-age room inside of room 23.
The lock to room 23 is separately keyed so that no unauthorized personnel has access to it.
The sources are stored in a concrete well approximately two and a half feet deep and one foot in diameter which is filled with parafin. A vertical hole about one and a half inches in diameter in the parafin allowa the sources to be lowered into the storage.
No one will use these sources until a valid license is secured.
To prevent a reoccurrence of this kind of violation the Radiation Safety Office will review its scheduling process and present a scheduling plan to the Radiation Safety Committee at its next meeting to held in April of 1992.
Sincerely yours,
% Q G.
