Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

i l
This is to confirm the telephone call to Mr. V. Bro e.(NRC 1039 on March 10, 1982 by Mr. J. D. Woodard (APCo) in accor h
U'iit 1 and 2 Technical Specification 3.7.11.1.
As a result of an inadvertent actuation at 0800 on 3/10/82 of the fire protection deluge system on cooling tower IA, the levels in Fire Protection Tanks A and B fell to approximately 85,000 gallons each.
Technical Specifications require a minimum tank level of 250,000 gallons, j
The tank levels are being returned to minimum acceptable Technical Specification levels.
The inadvertent actuation resulted from maintenance activities on the fire protection system air compressor.
In order to prevent fire protection deluge system actuation with the air compressor inoperable, temporary nitrogen bottic was connected to the deluge system sensing a
lines to provide proper pressure. However, the pressure slowly decreased to the point where the clapper valve opened and the deluge system actvated. The cause for the pressure decrease is being investigated.
Further details will be provided in the followup report.
I Sincerely yours, p/.j/.
