Dear Sir:

Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Licensee Event Report No.82-003 This telecopy is to confirm the telephone conversation between Mr. D. R.

llaverkamp, Region I NRC and Mr. M. J. Ross, Manager - Plant Operations TMI-1, at 1515 hours0.0175 days
0.421 hours
0.0025 weeks
5.764575e-4 months
on March 18, 1982. The event described below was declared reportable at 1500 hours0.0174 days
0.417 hours
0.00248 weeks
5.7075e-4 months
this date.

Between 0730 and 0800 on March 18, 1982, approximately 2500 gallons of unter was accidentally overflowed from the Secondary Waste Neutralizing Tank (WT-T-1).

As a result, water with a pil of 3.5 was discharged from the neutralizing tank into the plant discharge effluent stream. This event is considered reportable per Technical Specification ~ Appendix B Section 5.6.2 in that Tech Spec Appendix B Limiting Condition for Operation 2.2.3 was violated at the waste neutralizing tank. Based on conservative estimates of dilution and waste water discharge flow the plant discharge pil limit of 6.0 to 9.0 was not violated.

In addition, since this occurrence also caused a violation of the TMI NPDES Permit, the PA Department of Environmental Resources will be properly notified.

The details of this occurrence and the corrective actions to prevent its recurrence will be provided within 14. days.
