Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Ncs. 50-416 and 50-417 File: 0260/L-860.0 Independent Design Verification AECM-82/114 This letter documents our meeting with you and members of your staff on March 11, 1982, to discuss the independent design review of Grand Gulf to be performed by CYGNA. Attachment 1 to this letter describes the program presented in that meeting and generally addresses the following items.

1. A description of the capabilities and experience of CYGNA

2. An overview of the review to be performed

3. A description of the Quality Assurance evaluation

4. A description of the Quality Assurance Implementation Audit as related to the New Loads Evaluation Program.

5. A description of the technical review of the RHR-A piping design including pipe hangers and components for applicable load cases.

Attachment 2 provides for your information the meeting handouts.

Attachment 3 is a discussion of CYCNA's independence with regard to the criteria established by the NRC. This information will also be incorporated into our status report and final report.
