ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION-UNIT I 10CFR50.55(e) ITEM M-30 ANDERSON GREENWOOD VALVES WITH MISMARKED FLOW ARROW-DOCKET NO.

50-358, CONSTRUCTION PERMIT CPPR-88, W.O.#57300 JOB E-5590 FILE NO. NRC-8 M-30 Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes a final report concerning the subject condition initially reported to the NRC Resident Inspector as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

On January 11, 1982, CG6E submitted an interim report, QA-1591, indicating that certain h" instrumentation valves were found to be labeled with flow arrows marked in the incorrect flow direction.

Of primary concern was the possibility that some of these valves may be installed in the improper direction.

To determine the safety-related significance of this condition, CG6E requested that the vendor, Anderson Greenwood Company, perform an investigation of possible valve performance failures should they be utilized in such a position.

The investigation is complete and the results indicate that the valves will function satisfactorily and reliably for design pressure and temperature if installed in either direction when operated in the normally open position, normally closed position, or when operated from one posi-tion to the other.
