IE Inspection #81-01, dated 2/19/81

Dear Sir:

In Reference (a), as part of Boston Edison's response to Violation A of Reference (b) concerning the Standby Gas Treatment System (SBGTS) at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Boston Edison stated that modification of the Deluge System was scheduled to be completed during our next refueling outage. We are herein requesting that the date for final implementation be extended to April 15,1982.

We believe this request to be justified by the extensive delays Boston Edison has experienced in procuring environmentally qualified components (79-01B).

We have now procured the majority of these components, though they are many weeks behind schedule. A projected eight week installation period will bring the, final installation date to. February 26,1982.

Procedures and training relevant to this system shall be completed by April,1982.

The fire patrol that was established in, accordance with the requirements of our Technical Specifications and our response in Reference (a) shall continue until the SBGTS Deluge System modification is completed. Further, interim corrective measures and procedural changes have been emplaced to insure system operability.

If you have any questions concerning this request, please contact us.

Very truly yours 8203030415 820224 PDR ADOCK 05000293
