Letter from T.A. Ippolito (USNHC) to G.T. Berry (PASNY) [bted June 8, 1981

Dear Sir:

Submi ted herewith are three copies of a report entitled "Pesponse to NRC IEB 79-01B Safety Evaluation Report." 'Ihis report includes the results of the Authority's evaluation of each deficiency identified in the NRC Safety Evaluation Report on environmental qualif. cation of safety related electrical equipnent transnitted with the reference letter.

In addition, justifications for contini;ed operation on an iteit by item basis, ard action Plans for the resolution of deficiencies are provided.

q

'Ihis evaluc. tion confirms that the identified equipnent will perform its interded satety function under postulated accident conditions.

3 An evaluation on a per system basis was previously performed and i

documented in the Authority's response to Inspection and Enforcement Bulletin 79-01B and NEDO-24297, "High Energy Line dreak Evaluation for d

James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Station." The results of this evaluation indicated that the safety related systems will perform their 2

essential functions in bringing the reactor to the cold shutdoem condition p

when subjected to postulated IDCA and HEIB environments.
