Philsdelohia 71ectric Company discussed this subject with vour office by telecon on December 16, 19S0 after it was determined that this situation may be reportable to the USNRC.
on December 17, 1980, Philadelntia riectric Coapany became aware that certain velds between the reactor pressure vessel
~
aossles and the reactor pressure vessel safe ends were welded using welding practices which deviated from the approved Installation Procedures.
- his welding practice involved aking partis 1 veld saases without feeding veld material (wash pass). followed by strav or mist application of water to accelerate the cooling process and thereby facilitating slignment.
It has been determined that on five welds this practice was definitely used.
There is a possibility that this has occurred on up to thirty-five other Unit 1 and Unit 2 RFV safe end to RPY nossle welds.
