resulting in jat pump failure.
In i+s response to Inter-regatery 54, Staff in "NRC Staff's Response to Intervenor Dokerty's Firs' 3et of Snecial Interrocatories on His Conten-tion "50"Ipaae E) has identified Inconel x-750 as the material used in hold-down beam assembly in that niant.
"ence, the hold-down beam assembly of a GE Bt/R-6 is of the na.e material composition as a plant which experienced cracking after eight yenrs of service.
Here is a metal-lurgical nexus.
- ext, Staff points out in the abcVe response that GE has recornized a problem exists, to wit, its issuance of nronriatary report MEDC 24,256 Clasa-III.
Evidently, Staff krs not raviewed this report, so that it is unknown if any of the Inconel X-750 assemblies of any design will be
- altered, Furtker, MEDC 2E,256 Class-III nnd Service Information Letter (SIL) No. llo (see Staff Resnonse, nage 2) were both nromulented by recent(1930) problems.
Hence, there is no raason to believe that nny changes were made to ACNGS from those of Drenden Unit $3, cecause of cfforts to prevent hold-down beam cracking.
Additional evidence for this state-ment may be found in Staff's responce to Interrogatory #6 and ',he absence of any alteration in choice of materials between the designs of Grand Gulf and Drenden Unit 71, which commenced oneretion October, 1471.
The Dranden event appears
'o have baen unanticiented.
