August 5, 1993 Docket No. 50-416 Mr. C. Randy Hutchinson Vice President, Operations GGNS Entergy Operations, Inc.
Post Office Box 756 e
Port Gibson, Mississippi 39150
Dear Mr. Hutchinson:
SUBJECT:
GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION - PLANT-SPECIFIC HYDROGEN CONTROL ANALYSIS (TAC NO. M77024)
On August 6,1990, the Hydrogen Control Owners Group (HC0G) submitted Topical Report HGN-112-NP, " Generic Hydrogen Control Information for BWR/6 Mark III Containments." The NRC staff published a safety evaluation of this report in NUREG-1417, " Safety Evaluation Report Related to Hydrogen Control Owners Group Assessment of Mark III Containments." By letters from Mr. J. R. Langley, Chairman of the HCOG, dated August 29 and 30, 1991, the Owners Group requested and provided justification for several changes in the conclusions of the staff's safety evaluation. On June 26, 1993, the staff issued a supplemental safety evaluation (SSE) addressing the issues raised by the Owners Group By previous agreement between the HCOG and the staff, receipt of this SSE initiates commitments by each Mark III owner to submit a plant-spcific hydrogen control analysis for each facility. However, the staff does not intend to perform a detailed review of this analysis if it is conducted in accordance with the approved topical report. Accordingly, it is not necessary to " submit" your final plant-specific analyses.
Each licensee is requested to perform the final plant-specific analysis and retain it as part of the permanent plant records. The staff wishes only to be advised by letter of the completion date as well as any significant findings and conclusions of your analysis.
You are requested to complete the analysis and submit your letter within 6 months of receipt of this letter.
Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BY:
