Boston Edison Company and the Massachusetts Attorney General ( hereinafter referred to collectively as the " Parties" ) hereby jointly request that the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board extend the date for filing of petitioner's contentions from its current date of August 13, 1993 to August 27, 1993. In support of this  ;

request, the Parties state as follows:

1. The Parties continue settlement negotiations of the matters at issue in .

this proceeding. The Parties believe that this effort is consistent with the intent and the provisions of 10 C.F.R. @ 2.759.

2. The Parties believe that it may be possible to resolve these issues, on a fair, equitable and mutually satisfactory basis outside of the hearing process.

3. The parties recognize that in order to continue the settlement negotiations in a deliberate, effective and efficient manner, additional time is required beyond the scheduled date for petitioners filing of contentions set by the i Board in its Memorandum and Order ( Extension of Time ) dated July 16, 1993.
4. The Parties helieve that the extension of time is in the best interests of i all the parties and that no harm will come from its being granted.
5. The Parties have discussed this motion with the Office of the General Counsel, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and they have authorized us to ,

state that they do not oppose the approval of this motion. ,
