NRC TESTING OF RIVER BEND FEEDWATER N0ZZLE P
On June 6,1993 a telephone conference was held between Leif Dietrich of your staff and myself to discuss whether Gulf States Utilities (GSU) would release the feedwater nozzle removed from the reactor vessel during the last refueling outage to the NRC. During that call, it was agreed that GSU would release the nozzle to the NRC for testing provided that:
(1) the NRC pays for shipping the contaminated feedwater nozzle from River Bend to Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), (2) GSU be permitted to perform an ultrasonic examination of the nozzle prior to any cutting on the nozzle and a penetrant examination prior to any destructive testing and (3) the NRC provides the results of all testing to GSU. The NRC agrees to pay for shipping the nozzle from River Bend to BNL and agrees to provide the results of all testing performed on the nozzle to GSU.
GSU agreed to provide the results of the dltrasonic and penetrant examinations performed on the nozzle to the NRC.
