NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-334/93-13 AND 50-412/93-14
This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. L. Rossbach, P. Sena, and S. Greenlee of
this office from June 15 to July 20,1993. The inspection included a review of activities
authorized for the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. At the
conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with Messrs. D. Spoerry and G.
Thomas and other members of your staff.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. The inspection consisted
of document reviews, interviews, and observation of activities important to public health and
safety. The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether activities authorized by the
license were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements.
Your staff identified that a safety injection accumulator was not sampled to verify boric acid
concentration before entering Mode 3 (hot standby). This violation is not being cited
because ofits minor safety significance and your prompt corrective actions.
