Fire Barriers Manufactured By Thermal Ceramics. Inc.
Gentlemen:
On July 7,1993, the NRC issued a letter to Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) entitled " Fire Barriers Manufac tured By Thermal Ceramics, Inc." to notify SNC of NRC concerns related to FP-60 fire barrier systems manufactured by Thermal Ceramics.
Per the NRC letter, Thermal Ceramics has informed the NRC that FP-60 fire barrier systems are installed in FNP Units 1 and 2.
Based on the NRC's review of FP-60 fire barrier systems, the staff has developed a request for additional information (RAI) for FNP.
SNC has determined that FP-60 fire barrier systems are not installed in either Unit 1 or Unit 2 at FNP. Additionally, Thermal Ceramics indicated to SNC that they have sent a letter (dated 07/13/93) to the NRC that states the following: "(Note - in previous correspondence it was stated that Farley Plant used FP60.
This was an error; they used Kaowool)".
Therefore, the concerns expressed in the RAI do not apply to FNP, and no further action related to the RAI is considered necessary.
