WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 July 8,1993 CHAIRMAN 1
The Honorable Martin R. Hoke United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515-3510
Dear Congressman Hoke:
)
i It was a pleasure to meet with you in Ohio on June 21, 1993.
Earlier, on May 25, 1993, you had written to our Region III office urging the NRC staff to work with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Chemetron Corporation to ensure that the Chemetron cleanup plan for the contaminated site on Bert Avenue in Newburgh Heights, Ohio, meets both Federal and State of Ohio standards.
t To ensure ontinued and effective coordination, the NRC staff has been meeting quarterly with State and local officials to review our respective efforts-toward achieving a cleanup of the two Chemetron sites.
Ior instance, the staff had a cordial and productive meeting last week with officials of the Ohio EPA. The cleanup plan, which will encompass both the Bert Avenue site and Chemetron's nearby site on Harvard Avenue, is to be submitted to the NRC i
by October 1, 1993.
We will continue to meet with these Ohio officials as the deadline for the plan approaches so that the necessary reviews can be expedited.
We appreciate your interest in the cleanup of the Chemetron Corporation sites
[
and look forward to working with you to achieve - "%ely and effective i
resolution of this matter.
Siniarely, j
