SUBJECT: NRC Combined Inspection Nos. 50-277/93-13; 50-278/93-13
An announced inspection at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station was conducted by.
Messrs. J. Noggle and L. Ecken on June 17 and June 21-23,1993. The inspection findings
were discussed with members of your staff on June 23,1993.
Areas reviewed during the inspection were imponant to health and safety and are discussed
in the enclosed inspection report. These areas included quality assurance audits and
surveillances, training and qualifications of personnel, the radwaste and health physics
organization, implementation of the radwaste program, radioactive material shipping records,
interim radwaste storage, scaling factors, and contamination control.
The audit and radwaste pmgrams were well implemented. The radwaste and transportation
training program was adequately implemented. A downward trend in radwaste volume
genemtion was noted. Radwaste and Radiological Controls staffing was sufficient to
implement responsibilities. An increase in the amount of technical Health Physics expertise
at the station was noted. No radiological safety concerns or violations of regulatory
requirements were identified.
