GABRIEL SANCHEZ RE:
CEC IMPACT ASSES $ MENT ITEM:
TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH OFFICER MIKE WALKER, HAYNESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT t
I spoke with Officer Walker on the subjects of Haynesville's current public safety resources, and the impact of the CEC facility.
Mr. Walker stated that his department's resources consist of 7 police officers and i
4 patrol cars.
He also believes that these resources are able to meet Haynesville's current crime problems, but that on-going badget cuts (that I
recently resulted in the loss of one officer) mean that any increase in
[
crime activity would severely strain their resources. The current budget constraints and related hiring-freeze can only be eliminated by raising the local government's revenues.
However, in view of the tax privileges that the CEC facility will enjoy, increased revenues due to higher local incomes and the multiplier effect in the local economy may not be enough L
to offset required expenditures.
