?g WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 July 15, 1993 Docket Nos. 50-317 and 50-318 LICENSEE: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company FACILITY: Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH BALTIM0RE GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY (BG&E)

CONCERNING LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT AND LICENSE RENEWAL ISSUES On June 17, 1993, representatives from BG&E and the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) met to discuss BG&E's life cycle management program and their efforts related to license renewal. Meeting participants discussed BG&E's proposed methodology to determine those systems, structures, and components that are important to license renewal.

A list of the attendees is enclosed.

BG&L presented their preliminary responses to requests for additional information (RAls) on BG&E's " Integrated Plant Assessment Methodology, Volume 1.:

Systems, Structures, and Components Screening." BG&E committed to submit the responses in writing to the NRC by August 2, 1993.

BG&E and NRC staff discussed the scope of review requested by BG&E.

BG&E is seeking a safety evaluation on the process described in the Integrated Plant Assessment Methodology, Volume 1.

BG&E requested that the scope of review include the methodology, the design basis events-(DBE) flowcharts, and the screening tools but not the detailed, step-by-step screening procedures.

BG&E will clearly state the scope of review requested in a letter to the NRC.

The NRC agreed that the procedures will not be part of the safety evaluation, however, may audit the procedures to ensure that the methodology will produce results that meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 54 for systems, structures, and components that are important to license renewal (ITLR).

If any information in those procedures is necessary to reach a safety conclusion, it will be required to be described in the methodology report.
