SUBJECT:
ROUTINE SAFETY INSPECTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLIN0IS ADVANCED
TRIGA REACTOR AND LOW POWER REACTOR ASSEMBLY (LOPRA)
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. C. Cox of this
office on July 6-8, 1993. The inspection included a review of authorized
activities for your Advanced TRIGA Reactor and Low Power Reactor Assembly
(LOPRA). At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed
with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report.
Within
these areas, the inspection cc,nsisted of a selective examination of procedures
and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations of
activities in progress.
No violations or deviations with NRC requirements were identified during the
course of this inspection.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's
Public Document Room.
