>n-Commissioner Remick's Comments on SECY-93-152 Provided that the staff maintain its current schedule (Attachment 2 to SECY-93-152) for providing the draft proposed rule and supporting documents to the commission, I approve the staff's recommendation to'(1) conduct additional public scoping meetings on the Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) for the enhanced participatory rulemaking and (2) inform workshop participants and the public of the availability of the draft criteria for decommissioning that will be submitted to Agreement States for review.

~~ ' y While I recognize that maintaining the current schedule will be challenging and difficult, it is perhaps achievable by working several of the milestones of the staff's proposed new schedule (Attachment 1 to SECY-93-152) in parallel rather than in series.

For example, the draft regulatory package can be presented to EPA, ACNW, and CRGR at the same time rather than at different times.

Also, with the Commission's narrowing of the ACNW's Charter, the rulemaking package need not go to ACNW for review.

By reconsidering these types of factors, I believe the staff can maintain its current schedule.

Finally, I commend the staff for its outstanding performance to date in carrying out this enhanced process.
