Dear Mr. Thayer:
SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION NUMBER 50-29/93-04
An announced safety inspection of the radiological controls program at your facility was
conducted by Mr. J. Nick on March 8,1993 and continued on June 8 - 10, 1993. The
inspection findings were discussed with members of your staff on June 10,1993.
Areas reviewed during the inspection were important to health and safety and are discussed in
the enclosed inspection report. Our findings are based upon inspector observation, interviews
of personnel, and review of records. Areas reviewed included posting of radiological areas and
other radiological controls observed during facility tours, organization and staffm' g, your
program for maintaining exposures as low as is reasonably achievable (ALARA), radiological
information available to workers, and radiological controls for the asbestos abatement pmject
in the vapor containment building.
Your health physics staff was adequately imined and qualified for their assigned positions. The
radiological areas toured in your facility were maintained in good condition and the proper
radiological contmls were implemented. Based on the activities observed, your staff provided
good health physics controls to pmtect the health and safety of the radiological area workers.
