Dear Steve,
I am requesting that the committee provide an interpretation of the ASME Section XI Code as it relates to a leaking flexible metal hose connector similiar in design to that described in Code Case N-192-2.
Attached are qi:estion/ responses to address this issue.
I am tentatively scheduled to be present at the upcoming ASME Code Committee Meeting (May) and will attend the inquiry session.
If you have any questions regarding this request or require additional information, please call me at (301) 504-2768.

Inquiry - ASME XI, 1992 ed.
Backaround' During a plant-system walk-down a flexible metal hose connector similar in.
design to that described in Code Case N-192-2 was observed to be leaking.
The factory assembled connector was leaking through the bellows under the woven sheath in the pressure boundary rather than at-the' fitting connections.
In Yesponse to inquiry XI-1-92-19 the committee' responded that corrective act' ion required by Section XI, IWA-5250-(a) does not apply during plant operation. The flaw evaluation criteria for stainless steel' piping are not appropriate for this component. The only examination this 1/2 inch connector would receive would be a visual examination as a part of the 10 year hyrdostatic test.
Question If leakage is discovered during plant operation for a pipe, valve or fitting NPS 1 or smaller, are any corrective actions or evaluations required within the scope of ASME Section XI ?
Answer No.
IWA-4120 exempts NPS I and smaller piping from the requirements of repair / replacement and IWB/IWC/IWD 1220 exempts the NPS 1 and smaller piping from examination.
The only requirement is that the components are included in the 10 year hyrdostatic pressure test.
