letters dated July 1, 1993 and July 7, 1993, to NRC comments on the final release survey plan and building decommissioning plan for the National Park l
Service property located near Pawling, New York.
The staff has determined that the information provided is acceptable with one modification. The modification, agreed to during a July 8, 1993, teleconference between John D.
Wolff and David N. Fauver of my staff, changes the required lower limit of detection for Am-241 in soil from 2 pCi/g to 1 pCi/g. Also, as. requested by Mr. Wolff in his July 7,1993 letter, to ensure understanding between NRC and Chevron on the method for plutonium determination, NRC's interpretation of the two step method proposed in Chevron's July 7,1993 letter follows:
- 1) plutonium concentrations in all samples containing Am-241 in concentrations equal to or greater than 1 pCi/g will be determined by alpha spectroscopy, and l
- 2) plutonium concentrations in all samples containing Am-241 in concentrations between background and 1 pCi/g will be determined by multiplying the Am-241 concentration by a factor of 7.
Accordingly, NRC approves the following plans, as supplemented in letters dated July 1,1993 and July 7,1993, and including the change in LLD as noted above:

Revised Decommissioning Plan for the Plutonium Facility and Multiple Failure Building of the National Park Service Property Located Near Pawling, New York, May 1993; and l
2.
Final Release Survey Plan of the National Park Service Property Located
