HADDAM NECK PLANT: SAFETY EVALUATION OF REQUEST FOR RELIEF FROM ASME SECTION XI REQUIREMENTS (TAC NO. M86917) l By letters dated June 29, and July 2 1993, Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) submitted a request for relief from certain requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI (Code).

CYAPC0 has requested the use of an alternative to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI (1983 Edition with Summer Addenda) requirements pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i).

Specifically, CYAPC0 has proposed an alternative plan to demonstrate an acceptable level of quality and safety for the feedwater system. The staff has reviewed the relief request and concluded CYAPC0's submittal is consistent with 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i). CYAPC0 has demonstrated that the proposed alternative will provide an acceptable level of quality and safety. Therefore, the staff concludes that the alternative inspection plan will ensure the structural integrity of the feedwater system.
