Dear Mr. Hill:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission recently received information concerning activities at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Stadon. The information was provided to you in a June 29, 1993, telephone conversation with Messrs. R. Keimig and R. Nimitz of this office. The details of the information, which are exempt from public disclosure under 10 CFR 73.21, Safeguards Information (SGI), are enclosed for your review and follow-up.

We request that the results of your review and disposition of this matter be submitted to Region I within 30 days of the date of this letter. We expect that your evaluation of this matter will be thorough, objective and of sufficient scope and depth to resolve this matter. We request that your response contain no personal privacy, proprietary, or safeguards information so it can be released to the public and placed in the NRC Public Document Room. If necessary, such information should be provided in an enclosure, appropriately marked, which will be withheld l

from public disclosure. An affidavit, as required by 10 CFR 2.790(b), must accompany your response if proprietary information is included.

i The enclosure to this letter should be controlled as SGI and distribution limited to personnel who are cleared for SGI and have a "need to know." As stated, the enclosure to this letter is i

considered Exempt from Public Disclosure. However, a copy of this letter, excluding the enclosure, will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

The response requested by this letter and the accompanying enclosure are not subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, Pub. L.96-511.
