Dear Commissioner Selin:
As a resident of the Great lakes Basin. I am wnting to express my opposition to the NRC's plan to store "high-level" irradiated fuel on the shores of Lake Michigan using the VSC-24 dry <.ask storage containers.
Tests done to date on these containers may seem adequate to NRC officials, but they are not to those of us living in the Great Lakes area.
If the NRC permits the loading of these casks with irradiated fuel, you will be doing nothing short of an "expenment in situ." with,
the largest body of fresh water on the Planet at risk if your experiment fails.
Objections to the use of the VSC-24 casks need to be analyzed thoroughly, and in public.
For that reason I call upon the NRC to convene formal public hearings on the VSC-24 casks to address formally the charges against its use.
Should formal hearings not be granted, my next letter wili be to my representatives to Congress, urging them to convene hearings as part of the upcoming NRC authorization proceedings, and to greatly reduce annual fundirigjo the NRC, since it is no longer acting to protect the health and safety of 'the public and the environment. and no longer "ranulatina" in behalf of the oublic it is supposed to serve. Thank you.
