Senator Arlen Specter 228 Walnut Street Harrisburg, PA 17105

Dear Senator Spector:

On March 28, 197q, the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant almost had a severe nuclear meltdown.

During this disaster, a great deal of radiation escaped into the atmosphere.

Many local residents evacuated the area while others stayed behind.

Many of the residents who stayed at home during the crisis are now suffering from many illnesses that may or may not be related to the near meltdown.

Since the crisis in 197q, several other problems have occurred at the plant.

First of all, several years ago more radiation was expelled into the atmosphere which might have been harmful to residents.

Secondly, there have been several reports which have demonstrated how incompitent some of its employees are.

For example, people falling asleep on the job and several mistakes that employees made which could have been disastrous.

Finally, about a month ago, a man broke through the front gates of the plant and hid for several hours on the premises.

If he had a bomb in his truck, this could have caused a severe problem.

I feel that if the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant is not regulated more closely, another mistake may be made which may be extremely devastating to our community.

I believe that at this point Three Mile Island is not properly run or regulated.

There should be new regulations proposed which would not only improve the safety of the plant but also improve security which would prevent future terrorist threats.

Until these regulations are put into effect, our community, if not the whole state, is in danger of another nuclear disaster.

Many lives could be saved from future threat if you use your political position to help get new legislation passed which would make sure that Three Mile Island is safely and properly regulated.

I would like to know your views on this issue.

I would also like to know what you are doing to improve safety measures at Three Mile Island.

I am very interested in your position and request a response to this letter.

My name and address is:

Christopher R.

Hanshaw 228 Indian Creek Drive Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 Sincerely,

.
