Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 Response to NRC Generic Letter 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers" Additional Information GNRO-93/00076 Gentlemen:

By letter dated April 13, 1993, we provided the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) response to Generic Letter (GL) 92-08 "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers".

Item 3 of the reporting requirements of GL 92-08 requested, in part, that licensees describe all corrective actions needed and provide a schedule by which such actions shall be completed to ensure / restore inoperable or degraded Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barrier operability.

In response, we stated that appropriate actions necessary to resolve fire barrier concerns are being developed through an industry program coordinated by NUMARC and that we would apply the results of the industry program, when completed, to the Thermo-Lag 330-1 installations at GGNS.

By follow up letter dated May 17 and received May 21, 1993 (Request for Additional Information), the staff requested that we provide, within 30 days from receipt of the letter, schedules for any site specific fire endurance testing for plant specific or unique configurations that are not bounded by the NUMARC program and the implementation of any potential barrier upgrades resulting from this testing.

Identification of such plant specific or unique fire barriers is dependent upon completion of the scope of the NUMARC testing program as well as other generic industry testing data.

Since the scope of these configurations has not been fully defined in the NUMARC program, we are unable to identify any GGNS unique barrier configurations.

Our goal is to submit plans and schedules for corrective actions, including that for USO(;E gf G9306211 - 1 9306300016 930622 PDR ADOCK 05000416 I

We believe this position to be consistent with current staff guidance.

Compensatory measures described in our April 13, 1993 letter w.ill remain in place until operability of the Thermo-Lag 330-1 barriers is established.

This information is being submitted under affirmation in accordance with 10CFR50.54 (f) (Attachment 1).
