/ \\ Turkey Point Unit 4 is now in Mod _e_5, Cold Shutdown, with Reactor CoolantR g / ISystem (RCS) Temperature less than 200 degrees F p("g closed cycle cooling system. The RHR system is cooled by the
/
Removal (RHR) ling Water closed cycle system, which in turn is cooled by the Component Coo ntake Cooling Water system that uses water from the cooling canal system.
, g/ Operating Modes are defined % the Technical Spec prior to goira to Mode 4 Hot Shutdown (RCS temperature above 200 degrees F),
i the licensee performs complete reviews of plant status, including:
1 h
Plant modifications and related crew training Maintenance work
).f Commitments to NRC Plant cleanliness and scaffolding inspections Equipment lineups and availability Required surveillance tests completed Department heads certify readiness Plant General Manager approves entering Mode 4 Plant heatup to Mode 4 then takes about two hours. The heat is generated by operating reactor coolant pumps and heatup rate is controlled by adjusting the amount of heat removed by the RHR systers.
Phto_ going to Mode 3, Hot Standby (RCS teinporature above 350 degrees r),
the licenses perfarns required surveillance tests. The plant heatup to 350 degrees F takes about six hours and the surveillance tests take about another In Mode 3, the method of cooling the RCS is changed. The RHR eight hours.
system is taken off line and heat removal is by dumping steam from the steam generators to the atmosphere and feeding water to the steam generators via the standby feedwater pumps. Plant heatup to normal operating temperature of 547 degrees F then takes about eight hours.
