RE:

Louisiana Energy Services

Dear Mr. Selin,

We of the Global Agenda for Environmental Action would urge you to deny LES' application to construct a uranium

-enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana.

The local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs are-both adamantly opposed to have this LES plant' located in their backyard..

be discharged into the Lake Claiborne The issues of toxic waste disposal, contaminated water which will watershed (which supplies'40 homes with drink ing water ) and-the danger of UF6-pollution of the air have combined to-

' create.a strong opposition to the project.

We feel that there is an element of environmental racism in the decision to place the plant in the midst of these two small black communities, and ask you to'. seriously-consider the negative impacts involved in continuing ~with the project.

We would remind you, in' addition, that there is currently a worldwide oversupply of uranium along with shrinking demand.

Finally, we fear that the same technology used in this facility'may well be used to produce nuclear weapons.

The same centrifuge designs as are planned here have been discovered by United Nations investigators in Iraq.

Thank you for taking the time-to consider;these points.-

We would appreciate hearing your response.
