Ivan Selin, Chairman d
United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 Dear Mr.
- Selin, I would like to express my concern about and opposition to the Louisiana Energy Services plan to construct an uranium' enrichment plant near Forest Grove Louisiana.
As you must be aware there are currently more than enough of these ' plants in this country to meet any need we may have for U-235.
At the present time the plants that-are operated by the DOE are only running at' 50% of capacity do to lower demand than available production capacity.
Clearly this plant is not needed.
The plant also would produce more nuclear waste as by products of its operation.
At the present time the
.i world has more radioactive waste than we can dispose of properly.
I am sure I need not tell you that our children, and their children's children will still be worrying about and dealing with-1 the radioactive waste products that we in our generation have j
produced.
The near term effects of this proposed plant must also be considered.
It will be located very near population centers and e
near a watershed that could be destroyed by accidental discharge of radio active material.
Should this plant have an accident the results would be devastating to both_ nature and the people in the nearby towns.
I urge you to deny the application for this plant.
Sincerely, A
