Submittal Supporting Accelerated ABWR Design Certification Review -

Submittal of Fourth Phase of Revised ABWR Tier-1/ITAAC Material i

Dear Mr.'Borchardt:

Enclosed are thirty-four (34) revised versions of ABWR' Tier 1/ITAAC material for fourteen (14) ABWR systems. The attached table lists these systems and the other ABWR Tier 1 material covered by this submittal. 'This material' represents the fourth and last of the ABWR Tier 1/ITAAC submittals we have scheduled. This transmittal, together with those of April 26, May 21, and June 4, 1993, provides material for a total of 79 ABWR systems. 1 The updated Tier 1 material'in this and the other submittals noted above s have been prepared in parallel.with closure of open items on the SSAR and may not reflect very recent CE/NRC agreements on SSAR'open issues. For example, some of the systems in either this and earlier transmittals may not fully reflect the outcome of GE/NRO discussions on probabilistic risk as-sessment (PRA) and severe accident insights. However, we do not view this parallel SAR resolution / Tier 1 submittal process as causing major difficulties and plan to update the Tier 1 systems material in the next few weeks to incorporate resolved SSAR design issues. We anticipate this will result in some revisions being sent to you between now and early July, 1993.

We plan to submit these revisions as hand written markups of theLearlier material. We do not anticipate any major perturbations and do not bell' eve this change process should impede staff review of the ABWR Tier 1 document.
