This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. Wesley L. Holley of this office
on June 1, 1993.
The inspection included a review of your activities
authorized for your TRIGA - MARK I Research Reactor.
At the conclusion of the
inspection, the findings were discussed with members of your staff identified
in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination and
representative records, interviews with personnel, and the observation of
activities in progress.
The results of this inspection are documented in the
enclosed report.
'
The inspection involved the coordination of followup confirmatory radiological
survey activities which were performed'by our contractor, Oak Ridge Institute
for Science and Education (ORI$E).
This confirmatory survey was performed as
the result of the concerns identified in NRC Inspection Report'50-192/93-01
and involved the pit area from which the reactor pool liner had been removed.
This followup survey completes the planned decommissioning survey activities
for your TRIGA - MARK I Research Reactor. We will notify you concerning the
status of your facility after we have received the final . Confirmatory Survey
Report from ORISE.
If the survey results indicate that radiation levels are
above the release criteria for unrestricted use, you will be notified and
further decontamination may be required before the decommissioning of your
facility is considered completed.
In accordance with 10 CFR Part 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice,' a copy
of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document
'
Room.
