Dear Mr. Ivan Selin,

on behalf of the whole membership of LEGAMBIENTE, the most widely diffused environmental NGO in Italy, we ask you to deny the application of Louisiana Energy Services to constniet uranium enrichment facility in Homer, Louisiana.

LES's plants would ceItainly have a negative impact on the area, both in emironmental and social terms. Besides the patent phisical risks of producing and storing thousands of tons of uranium-238, which remains hazardous for millions of years, we consider impossible and unresponsible to ignore the deep opposition expressed by the local communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs.

The phenomena of emiromnental. racism is unacceptable in terms of social equity and human rights respect, but is even an exempla of how the environmental and global problems are still often faced from a myopic and narrow point of view. Statistics indicate that an overhelmingly disproportionate number of toxic waste sites, incinerators, and hazardous chemical and industrial operations are sited in poor, minority communities.
