NRC Bulletin No. 93-02, " Debris Plugging of Emergency Core Cooling Suction Strainers," was issued on May 11, 1993.
The bulletin required the identification of fibrous air filters or other temporary sources of fibrous material not designed to withstand a LOCA which are installed or stored in containment.
Southern Nuclear has reviewed the design of systems installed inside containment and items which are stored inside containment. No sources of fibrous material have been identified inside containment which are not designed to withstand a LOCA. This determination is applicable to modes 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Fibrous materials may be used and temporarily stored in containment during modes 5 and 6.
Removal of this material is verified by procedure prior to startup of the unit.
Thus, Southern Nuclear did not identify any fibrous air filters or other temporary sources of fibrous material, not designed to withstand a LOCA, installed or stored in the Farley containments.
This letter provides Southern Nuclear's complete response to NRC Bulletin No. 93-02 for f arley Nuclear Plant.
