CONFIRMATIVE ACTION LETTER
Dear Ms. Knapp:
This will confirm our telephone conversation on June 10, 1993, in which we stated that the fire-retardant foam in the packaging described in Certificate of Compliance No. 9019 may not contain the typical 3.2% boron as stated for the chemical composition for the foam.
Presence of boron was used in the criticality safety analysis for an array of damaged packages.
Based on that conversation, I understand that you will not use the Model No.
BU-7 packaging, without prior approval of the NRC.
Request for approval should include the type and form of material, the maximum quantity of material per package, the amount of boron present in your packagings and your criticality safety analysis for a damaged array.
If my understanding is not in accordance with your actions, or should_you decide to make shipments in the Model No. BU-7 packagings prior to review and approval by the NRC, please contact me immediately.
