Dear Mr. Sieber:
SUBJECT: COMBINED NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-334/93-10; 50-412/93-11 -
An announced ss.fety inspection of the radiological controls program at your facility was
conducted by Mr. J. Nick during the period April 26 - 30,1993. The findings of the
inspection were discussed with members of your staff during the exit' meeting on April 30,.
1993.
!
!
Areas reviewed during the inspection were important to health and safety and are discussed
in the enclosed inspection report. These areas included job coverage during outage
conditions, health physics training, the ALARA progmm, dose assessments and assignments,
,
quality assurance, and instructions to workers.
'
Your staff pmvided good health physics covemge to protect the health and safety of the
radiological area workers. The radiological controls for the steam generator work and the
reactor head lift were appropriate and comprehensive. Adequate information was provided to
.
workers for awareness of the radiological conditions in their work areas. The ALARA
progmm was a signiGcant contribution in lowering total dose and dose rates in some work
.
areas. The self-assessment and surveillance programs continued to promote identification
and resolution of problems in a timely manner.
Within the scope of this inspection, one violation of NRC regulations was identified for
failure to follow radiological control precedures dealing with personnel access control during
i
radiographic operations. This violation will not be subject to enforcement action due to
identification and reasonable corrective action by the your staff in accordance with the
criteria specified in Section VII.B of the Enforcement Policy,10 CFR 2, Appendix C.
